I Started Drawing Again After Almost Giving Up
All twenty-one days checked in, none missed.
βHi, I'm Mia, 24, from the Philippines.
I used to love drawing when I was younger. I could sit for hours with a pencil and paper and not even notice the time. But slowly I stopped doing it. Work, phone, social media, and honestly just being lazy sometimes π
Whenever I saw beautiful drawings on Instagram, I felt like I wanted to draw again. Then I would compare my work with theirs and think, why even try when mine looks so bad?
So I decided to take the 21 days challenge. My goal was simple β draw for at least 15 minutes every day. Nothing fancy.
The first few days were actually fun. I drew flowers, random faces, and some things around my room. But around day 5 or 6, I started feeling bored. Some drawings looked terrible and I didn't feel like opening my sketchbook.
One day I was so tired after work that I almost skipped it. I told myself I will do double tomorrow, which is usually how I end up quitting things π. But I remembered the challenge and just drew a very simple flower for 15 minutes.
It wasn't good, but at least I did it.
The hardest part was not finding time. It was accepting that my drawings won't look perfect. I kept wanting to make something beautiful every single day, and that was making me not enjoy it.
After about two weeks, I noticed something small. I was spending less time thinking about whether my drawing was good and more time actually drawing. I even started keeping my sketchbook on my desk instead of hiding it in a drawer.
On day 21, I didn't suddenly become an amazing artist. My drawings still have mistakes and some of them are honestly funny looking.
But I completed all 21 days, and that feels good.
I think I lost drawing because I was waiting to be good at it instead of just doing it. Now I want to continue, even if it's only 15 minutes a day.
One thing I learned is that you don't always need more motivation. Sometimes you just need to start, even when you don't feel like it.
Let's see if I can keep going for another 21 days β€οΈβ
